What is Craniosacral Therapy (CST)?
The body’s craniosacral system comprises the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the cranium (head) to the sacrum (tailbone). As cerebrospinal fluid circulates through the craniosacral system, it expands and contracts this semi-closed hydraulic system. Any restrictions in the membranes of this vital system can directly affect brain function, according to Dr. John E. Upledger, American Osteopath and developer of craniosacral therapy.
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on modality that examines fascial structures and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system.
To free up a restriction, a craniosacral therapist applies very gentle pressure AND DIRECTED, SUBTLE ENERGY to the system, encouraging the release of the obstruction, and restoring fluid motion to the craniosacral system.
